IMAGINARY
BOTANICALS
An immersive garden of recycled plastic flowers
A PARADISE 2020-2022 PROJECT
Imaginary Botanicals is a large scale installation featuring 400 individually crafted flowers made entirely from recycled plastics. Designed as a calm space for all ages, visitors can walk the labyrinth, or sit on the integrated illuminated benches and listen to the gentle soundscape.
Each flower is different, look closely and listen. Some flowers have hidden speakers, they might sigh, yawn or sound like a buzzing bee. The flowers are planted in vividly coloured stained glass style boxes and illuminated by 60 WIFI DMX lights creating spiralling light patterns.
Suitable for day and night display.
Imaginary Botanicals has an infinitely flexible layout.
Imaginary Botanicals and sustainable practice
Designed to run off-grid, the labyrinth lights have internal batteries and are charged each night.
MATERIALS SOURCING
Made from recycled plastic bottles, bottle caps, and other household recyclable plastics collected and donated by members of the Geelong VIC and Gladstone QLD communities as part of our North Geelong Community Lantern Trail project. Many hundreds of flowers were made, the 400 displayed in the Flower Labyrinth is 1/3 of the flowers made. The others have found permanent homes with community members.
