| Review: The West Australian October, 1998 ´It´s director… synthesises theatre experience with visual art media such as painting, graphic design, sculpture, textiles, and photography. In Edward II they have attempted a grand theatrical incorporation of all these media, but not lost sight of the mechanics of the drama. The long narrow painting studio of the Fremantle Arts Centre has been drenched with earthy dun-coloured Hessian and furnished with wooden platforms, suspended mesh screens, and door frames to create a simple, consonant whole. The costumes are similarly conceived, with contemporary materials and techniques employed to create strikingly individual clothes. The Musicians utilise an eclectic mix of instruments and styles to puncture the drama, with the ceremony of the Coronation Masque and the staccato electric guitar accompaniment to Edward´s murder particularly effective.´ Grant Cottrell |
